Thompson Grabbed The Long-Awaited European Crown

After securing a European title, finally, Nick Thompson the two-time Laser world champion has his eyes set on a first Olympic gold already.


Thompson is now 31-year-old and at the European Championships, topped the podium in Barcelona after showing a series of consistent performances throughout a week of racing.

Everything came down to the final bullet, however, Thompson in total, scored 130 points in total, which put him 18 points ahead of Francesco Marrai of Italy. Andrew McKenzie off with New Zealand finished third in the event.

And the sailor was happy to add one more title to his collection in such challenging conditions, on the final day; he jumped from fifth to take gold.

He said, “This is really pleasing. It is being one of those events, I have the desire to win and it has eluded me for a long time, I have participated in this event many times before, came really close and even got the medals but the victory has come for the first time. US Youth Champs Comes To Corpus Christi Again

The Corpus Christi Yacht Club had the chance to host the 2013 US Youth Championship.


Now, after a gap of 4 years, the yacht club will again be hosting the summit event in the US youth sailing event history. The club is really happy to have got the opportunity to host the young US sailors on its waters. A total of 175 top young sailors in America will be taking part in this prestigious youth sailing event.

The 2017 US Youth Sailing World Championship will be held from June 25th to 28th. The qualifications for the Youth Sailing Championship will be held for 4 out of the 6 classes. The young sailors under the age group of 20 years will get a chance to take part in this sailing event. Both young men and women can take part in the races and there are plenty of events on offer for the 4 days.

Acadia Delivered By Claasen To It’s Owner

Dutch shipyard Claasen delivered the truly Classic 90 series.


The ship is built from aluminum and its superstructure classification of MCA and Lloyd’s. Acadia has the features of naval architecture and its exterior styling has been done by Hoek Design.

Owner’s representatives Peter Wilson said, “Acadia is a mini superyacht that has a world-class standard. The ship has wonderful craftsmanship and the owner of the yacht is pleased with that.”

The yard said that the owner of the yacht took a close interest in the interior work and fit-out, the owner specified Golden Beach granite and white Calacatta Michelangelo marble in the interior of the yacht.

The yacht has the accommodation capacity of three crew members and five guests. The ship is split into five en-suite cabins, that includes a VIP double to port, a bunk cabin to starboard and a full-beam owner’s suite aft. Sister Duo Makes Bronze

The sailing sister duo from New Zealand became bronze medalists for the second time in the Aon Youth Sailing Worlds Championship.


The sisters, Greta and Kate Stewart claimed second position in the 29er girls’ class category. They were sailing in home waters of the Hauraki Gulf in Auckland, New Zealand. Indeed, this sailing competition for under 19 sailors took place amidst much global attention as it has become a world class regatta that promotes youth sailors across the world. It is a highly competitive event that has seen several Olympic level sailors emerges from this event.

The pair was awarded the second bronze medal when the prizes were given away and they were happy to have made this achievement at an event that is considered the pinnacle among all events that promote youth sailing. The event was held off the coast of Torbay. The achievements of all sailors were marked and recognized after the five day regatta event came to an end. Andersen Won Over Carlo Croce

In the election of president for world sailing Carlo Croce now president of the committee has been won over by Kim Andersen.


In the line of three way ballot voting, Croce first won over former president of committee Paul Henderson. And in the second round, he was defeated by Kim Andersen of Denmark.

Before the election, Croce address the council member with a long speech in which he talks about various things related to sport and how to increase its future. But, his long speech did not help him to extend his tenure. In the two rounds of voting, he went short of votes.

Kona World Championship In Florida

Florida is all set to host the 2016 Kona World Windsurfing Championship. This will be the 3rd time USA will be hosting this event. It is scheduled from October 28 to November 2. It will be held in Islamorada, Florida Keys.

We can expect to see more than 110 former competitors and champions from 12 different countries. Which are the countries participating in the event? You will see participants from Germany, United States, Holland, Denmark, Great Britain, Sweden, Canada, Mexico and China. They held the event in Denmark last year.

The best thing about the field is that you will be able to see some of the best talents performing. Successful Conclusion Of Rio Regatta

In the 470 Men sailing race the top three teams that emerged during the initial races were certain to win the medals, but what color was to be decided in the final days. For instance, Igor Marenic and Sime Fantela from Croatia emerged winners from this year’s event and won gold, the first in the country. The race was won by them by keeping a close look at their rivals who were the Britain team of Pavlos and Panagiotis as well as Will Ryan and Mat Belcher of Australia.

With the Croatian team winning the gold, the other two teams were up for the race for silver. The race for silver was initially dominated by Will and Belcher till they slipped and lost time to recover. However, they did make it for silver and the Austrian team had to settle for bronze. AI For Sailing

Artificial intelligence is no longer part of science-fiction as it is making inroads into technological advancement in different spheres. One such sphere where it is being utilized is in the making of faster boats. A group of engineers in Land Rover unit is working as the British Land Rover team who are working on a faster boat model that would make winning a sailing competition like the America’s Cup  a piece of the pie for the sailors.

With the use of AI the engineers have been working to incorporate the performance data of a boat into its engine system and to understand patterns of the same, so that the replication of the patterns can be done in a boat in order to make it move faster through the waters. Till date the team has been second in the World Series rankings of America’s Cup. They had a podium finish recently in a race that was concluded in Chicago recently. The next competition that is coming up as part of the tournament is in Portsmouth that is an island city. This would be on the forthcoming weekend when the team will try and close the gap in points that exists between them and the New Zealand team of Emirates that is the current leader.

The skipper and principal member of the Land Rover BAR team stated that the AI would give the differential that the team needs in order to win the Cup for the first time for the country. The expertise of machine learning as well as processing of big-data is being used to help co-engineers develop the expertise they need to have the fastest boat for this tournament. The testing revealed that data that is received from the boat sensors was about 16 GB that would fill the memory of an iPhone presently.
